Work Experience
Dominic Viatic, I am on a weeks work experience from my school and am creating a video about people's copncepts about rock music and if it is a possitive one. I also want to understand where some people's negative perceptions of this genre of music come from. In this blog I will be writing what I have done each day from Monday to Friday and explain what I have learnt from these experiences
Monday: Observed a meeting at a hostel for the homeless about setting up the use of video cameras for the tenants. Began setting up the audio for my video project so I am ready to start interviewing staff at the grange on their opinions of this music and what these opinions are based on.
Tuesday: Asked staff if they would like to be interviewed about music, using a Flip Video camera I interviewed people about my music and recoreded these interviews for use in my project. People seem more willing to be interviewed with a flip video camera rather than a full size camcorder as they are not as intimidated by them so the interviews are of a good quality. These will be cut together for use in my final project.
Wednesday: Now off to work with a group at the Wells on how to use a flip camera. Surprisingly easy to teach the people how to use a flip video camera and they have created simple video guides to the local area within half an hour. They will now begin to cut these clips together to produce a full video.
Thursday: Began editing my interviews with clips of me playing guitar, walked to victoria house to help out at a class which was held there, showed the people how to take simple images using a macbook on photobooth and then showed one person how to transfer images to her laptop using a USB stick. This has shown me that some things which come as second nature to people of my age can be quite confusing and difficult for others.
Finished my video project with small clips of narration so it is now ready to be uploaded to youtube.
Friday: Attended a session for volunteers about learning how to use video cameras however there was quite a poor turn-out so this session became a meeting about how best to arrange these functions to make them work properly. We made steps to re-arrange the way the sessions work to ensure that the problem will not occur again. I will uload my video to youtube and blip video so people can view it as an example of what I have done this week.
I have enjoyed my time here at the grange in People's Voice Media on work experience, I have learnt that in community reporting you need to be flexible and be able to persevere to make things work as not everything this week has gone according to plan but we have found ways around these problems. despite these problems I ahve finished my visoe and it will be available to view on youtube shortly.

Just got back off lunch break and am starting to edit the interviews from yesterday to make my project.
Just got back from the session teaching about the flip video cameras, found it entertaining and was suprised at how quickly the people got the hang of using the cameras. I suppose it proves how easy they are to use. Going on my lunch break now comment later.
