I thought NEM/CAB share the same offices/building?
Sometimes you have to wonder why certain services are being pushed, and will they still be here when NDC has gone. You will also find that there is only a certain level of help that Money Mentors can do for you, although anything is better than nothing in the present climate and they do give good advice.
My own views are that there is already a far superior service already in place and can help with a wider range of benefit/debt problems, the only problem is this service is rather limited regards funding and staffing levels, which means it is only available part-time to the public in East Manchester. Why not put money to better use and promote and make the CAB (Citizens Advice Bureau) a better service that is readily available to everyone.
"The Citizens Advice Bureau is a registered charity reliant on trained volunteers and funds to provide these vital services for local communities."
It is a pity the CAB don't self promote the good work they do and feedback with actual figures of people helped and types of cases dealt with. I would like to point out that I am an ordinary member of the public who has used both services, I found Money Mentors could only help directly with certain types of debt, while CAB can help with a lot more and went beyond providing support as well until the problem was dealt with.
So i think my question would be "why have another service that can not provide the same level of help as one that is already in place", surely the answer is to help make the CAB a better service.
