How about receiving a CAMEO for your achievements

With Multimedia being promoted as a way for people to show positive and negative happenings within a community, I believe it would be a good idea to honour this behaviour for people who actually produce the multimedia content. America has its OSCARS, we can have our own, and they could be called CAMEO's. As most multimedia content is produced for websites, blogs etc, its makes sense to convey this in the name, so my idea for a name is CAMEO which could stand for

Community Award for Multimedia Excellence Online

This could be a yearly event where we honour members of the community for their production of content for websites, blogs etc; the prize could be a small statuette, or something appropriate; this could be a competition open to the community to come up with a design. I think the scope is vast, we could honour all types of people associated with the production of a piece of multimedia, it could be a song, audio or spoken podcast, a video, anything multimedia related. Then it can be broken down into categories, actors, directors, camera persons, script writers, musicians, creativity, age groups etc and many more. I imagine it would take a bit of funding, and someone prepared to get it off the ground. This is how I believe you engage with communities, and give them something back for their efforts, I think this is an excellent way to keep the community motivated enough to continue to produce content for years to come. You never know it could be televised one day and well not be quite as big as the Oscars, but something to be proud of.

I love this idea what a way for people to get involved.

great idea but where would the mony come from? and would you try to involve people that aren't already involved in things? because it seems that its always the same people really especially when its something good or nice because they never end up telling other people that might get something out of it because people know when they're onto a good thing usually. it wouldn't be fair if it included proffessional or trained people or if it was businesses but if it would be a fair way to award and recognise potential and individual residents talent, then it gets my vote to benefit from a lottery grant or community fund! (theres loads of money being splashed out to the same projects year after year so this one sounds a bit more original!!)

Hi Everyone

It's one of them ideas that should take off, and I would hope it benefits the non professional community when it comes to awards. Until we see how it goes I can't really comment on who should be included, it's possible it could be open to semi pros or people who work in the background helping others in a multimedia way, if you know what I mean. The main idea was to reward  people in the community who gets off their backside and tries to make a difference, and in the process give something back in the content they produce.

Lets hope it becomes a reality.

Sounds like a good idea but a little exclusive - I wonder how many nominations you'll receive for an award like this? Who would be on the panel deciding the winner? Is there any scope for getting the Multimedia category on other awards events that are held - The City Council hold awards for residents every year, so do Eastland Homes. I'm sure there are others. It's really important that the work carried out by volunteers and community activist is recognised and there are many ways of doing this - I've tried a few things myself. Up until a couple of years ago we used used to have Recognition Events annually. I'll be keeping my eye on this thread and watching developments. Great suggestion like I said.

Hi Tracy

Not sure what you mean by exclusive, at the moment it is just an idea I had, and yes it is exclusive as it is about producing content for the online community. This is an area that is not really catered for, and as we are pushing people to get online something like this makes sense. There are many awards and celebrations for the community on a variety of subjects, and I see this as just being another one to add to the list.

This can be inclusive or exclusive, I did mention the scope of this thing could be vast. I have only briefly outlined an idea, so please ask as many questions as you like, the more the merrier. This is the only way it could move forward, everyone putting in ideas, suggestions, coming up with possible problems and the why, what, when, where and how.

Until something concrete is in place then I am sure there will many questions and answers brought to the table, for the moment everything is up for discussion. Bolting it on to an already in place awards ceremony is perhaps a starting point, at least until it gets it own identity.

appreciate your input, glad you found the posting, needs to be in more visible place.
