co-op challenge day 15th july 2009

CO-OPERATION AND HARD WORK REAP REWARDS AT EDGE LANE ALLOTMENTS

On Wednesday July 15th 2009, a team from the Compliance Division of Manchester's Co-operative Financial Services (CFS) descended upon Edge Lane Allotments in Openshaw, East Manchester with a very important job to do. The Community Plot was in need of some attention to get it ready for its forthcoming open day planned for August 9th 2009 Never ones to shy away from a challenge the 31 strong team got straight to work clearing the site of weeds and rubbish. They flattened out mounds of earth, removed fallen trees and in just one day the site was transformed. Other smaller areas were pruned and weeded. Mission accomplished!

CFS is committed to community issues and social responsibility and what better way to honour these beliefs than by giving something back to the community in this way. One colleague said “I really feel as though I have made a difference. It was only when I saw the before and after pictures that I realised just what we had all achieved as a team.”

The Edge Lane Team would just like to say without groups like the co-op who make such a big impact on the day , we would not be progressing as fast as we are, the team spirit and enthusiasm was second to none.

A big thank you to Karen Heys and her team from the co-op.
