2010

It’s a new year, fresh with new possibilities. There are many reasons to be optimistic about 2010, but it doesn’t come without its challenges. This year, we need to take a hard look at our food system, identify the problems, and make the changes necessary to ensure that safe, healthy food is available to all. We need to overhaul our school lunch program, and eliminate the use of growth hormones in dairy operations. Let’s crack down on pollution from industrial farms, and improve living conditions for the animals within them. It’s a tall order, I know.

Seasons Greetings

On behalf of the Edge Lane Allotment Society Commitee I would like to wish everybody a very merry Christmas and a very wealthy and healthy new year.

I would also like to mention that in 2010 Jessica Mayo plot no. ?? will be delivering our youngest allotmenteer,
so If anyone sees her doing anything strenuous, silly, unhealthy (smoking) (drinking) etc, etc, then stop her as we must make sure our future allotmenteers are of a healthy standard. Hey we can,t wait any excuse for a party.

The Entertainer by John Osborne

Exchange Theatre Manchester Nov 2009

First off, if you have never been to the Theatre I can highly recommend it with seating prices starting from as little as £10 and like me you could make a night of it by having a meal out so, you can have a good night out for as little as £20,(depending how much you drink!)

Food For Thought

Grow your own fruit trees and berries within the UK ….

New research from Plant forLife reveals the trend for ‘grow your own’ has almost doubled, with over half (54%) admitting they now choose to grow their own, compared to just one fifth (22%) two years ago. Almost two thirds (62%) agree they would like to grow their own fruit trees and berries.

Growing your own gets you out into the fresh air, helping to keep you fit by burning off a few calories. However, most of all we get the health benefits of eating fresh fruit and vegetables everyday and we save money!
